The Legacy system is the MSU IRB Online System used for IRB submissions before the Click(TM) Research Compliance System's go live (December 4, 2017). Researchers may want to access the Legacy System to obtain information that is available in the Legacy system only (described below).
As part of the Click™ Research Compliance System implementation, the Legacy MSU IRB Online System was replaced with Click and the MSU IRB Legacy Online System was planned to be taken offline on December 4, 2018. However, access to the MSU IRB Legacy System for researchers has been extended to February 1, 2019. View more information, including instructions on how to download documents. Due to MSU's modified operations on January 30 and January 31, the system will be available for two additional business days (February 4 and 5). The system will become unavailable on February 6, 2019.
Log In for LEGACY System Access: MSU Legacy IRB Online System – Researcher (see VPN information below if you are logging in off-campus).
For security reasons, when off-campus, you must first login to VPN (Virtual Private Network) to access the Legacy system. If you are on campus, you do not need to use the VPN.
Regular faculty, full-time staff, retirees, trustees, and graduate students. This includes clinical and adjunct appointments, law professors, academic staff, medical students, and law students.
VPN access can be requested by a supervising staff/faculty member for individuals who have a NetID and a business need for VPN access. This means that a VPN access request is needed for on call or temporary employees, part time staff, undergraduate students, residents, and guest investigators.
A faculty or staff supervising individual must submit a request through the IT Self Service Portal. Departments, colleges, and/or the principal investigator may have processes in place to identify who the faculty or staff supervising individual may be to request access to VPN. A NetID is needed to submit this request, along with a business purpose. Please note that this process is not part of the HRPP.
If you are a guest investigator who needs access to the Legacy System and you do not have a NetID, a NetID must be requested. This is a separate process from requesting VPN access and must be done before requesting the VPN access. There may be costs associated with obtaining and maintaining a NetID. Information about how to request a departmentally sponsored NetID can be found at: https://netid.msu.edu/other/index.html Please note that this process is not part of the HRPP.
VPN access is available at: https://vpn.msu.edu
Please note that software needs to be installed before you can log into the VPN. Individuals should consult with their department or college IT individuals on the installation of the VPN software. Installation may vary by operating system and administrator privileges may be needed to install the software on university equipment. Please visit the MSU ITS webpages for more information about how to use the VPN. https://tech.msu.edu/network/network-systems/firewalls-vpn/
If you are logging into the VPN through an access request, you need to choose the realm “CampusAD” in the drop down box when logging into vpn.msu.edu.
If you need assistance or more information, please contact the MSU IT Service Desk at (517) 432-6200 or itserve@msu.edu.
