HRPP IRB Fees for Industry Sponsored Clinical Trials
October 1, 2025
Michigan State University (MSU) Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Institutional Review Board (IRB) fees are charged for industry sponsored clinical trials. Government funded research, internally funded research, and non-funded research are not subject to an MSU HRPP IRB fee.
All investigators submitting industry sponsored clinical trials are required to include a separate line item(s) in the study budget for HRPP IRB fee(s). For studies reviewed by a commercial (Independent) IRB, the MSU HRPP IRB fee is in addition to fees charged by the commercial (independent) IRB.
HRPP IRB fees have not been increased since 2006. After benchmarking with other institutions, MSU HRPP/IRB fees were raised effective September 1, 2025.
The new fees apply to industry sponsored clinical trial agreements executed after September 1, 2025.
