The Biomedical and Health Institutional Review Board (BIRB) is one of two IRB committees at Michigan State University. Applications reviewed by the BIRB generally encompass medical, biological, and health related research and may be medically invasive. The BIRB is registered to review projects regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The BIRB reviews applications based primarily on the Responsible Principal Investigator's College affiliation and whether medical expertise is needed for review. The majority of BIRB applications come from the following MSU Colleges:
Applications from investigators affiliated with other Colleges may also be reviewed by the BIRB if BIRB expertise is needed.
The BIRB meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Check the event calendar for meeting dates.
BIRB committee members include individuals who are affiliated and not affiliated with MSU.
