- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that sets forth requirements for the protection of privacy of students’ educational records.
- Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) is a federal law that sets forth additional requirements in elementary and/or secondary public schools when certain activities are conducted (e.g. survey, analysis, physical examinations) or if funded by the Department of Education (e.g. surveys, analysis, or evaluation).
- Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that sets forth requirements for use or disclosure of protected health information.
- The U.S. Department of Justice provides additional requirements when research is conducted within the Bureau of Prisons.
